The Orchard WIndows Gallery is pleased to present "Voodoos of the World" by Denise Backman. Her paintings provoke emotion and imagination through various expressionistic styles, separately and together, allowing a moment to open minds and conjure feelings in order for the viewer to create their own story. Backman's artwork inspires people to let their imaginations escape the walls of reality and busy lives and to entice them to feel the emotion that they are forced to sometimes set aside and view it as an essential part of our personality.
"The Voodoos of Our World" is based on society and aspects of life that we deal with on a daily basis that make us think about how and why we exist. The concept of Voodoo, either projecting negativity or trying to bring on positive forces, is left in the hands of the viewer; as well as the emotional depictions of moments in life that create the answers to our questions of which type of Voodoo we choose.
Denise Backman graduated from the Fashion Institute of Technology with a Bachelor of Fine Arts. For the past 10 years, she has been freelancing as a muralist and portrait artist while evolving her works of art. She has shown in galleries, exhibits, and cafes from Greenport, Long Island to New York City with possibilities of a future group exhibit at The Brick Lane Gallery in London, England in the works.
