“My artwork takes an elongated view of beauty, social, and cultural issues. In my work, I deconstruct the African/American dream, family value, musician/artistic views, as well as professional views that are part of our childhood and adult culture. Having engaged subjects as diverse as the civil rights movement, jazz and blues music and modernist architecture. My work reproduces the beauty of history verses modern everyday style.”…Frank Morrison

FRANK MORRISON: SOUL TO SOUL
EXHIBITION & ART SUPPLIES DRIVE At House of Art Gallery
Morrison and House of Art Gallery Remember New York’s Neediest Families during December’s Holiday Season
NEW YORK, NY, November 13, 2011 – House of Art Gallery will host a holiday-themed exhibition featuring award winning picture book illustrator and fine art artist Frank Morrison and his latest collection entitled: “Soul to Soul” during December 15- January 29. The Exhibition will feature an unveiling of new paintings, an evening cocktail reception, children’s book-signing, art demonstration for kids and an art supplies drive to benefit Brooklyn’s neediest children. House of Art Gallery is located at 373 Lewis Avenue, corner of Macon Street Brooklyn, New York 11233.
The Exhibition will include some of Morrison’s most famous work such as the “Cutest Kidz”, “Soul Sistahs”,” Urban Jazz Collection” and “Urban Mannerism”. He will unveil new paintings from each series. The artist has dedicated his life and most of his work to preserving and capturing the beauty of the African American family as he regularly depicts images of strong, vibrant figures and portrays children with playful innocence. “I paint to dignify and to moralize forgotten subjects and moments often overlooked because of the conditions in which they exist. All of my subjects matter...” Morrison stated.
He also receives regular inspiration as a dad from his five children, ranging from nine months to 20 years of age. And, as it seems, the apple may not have fallen far from the tree. Morrison’s son, Nyree will have his artwork displayed as well.
Richard Beavers, House of Art Gallery Owner is a long-time supporter of Morrison’s work. He collaborated with the artist on the thought of hosting the children’s book signing/demonstration and art supplies drive and felt that it would be a perfect way for Morrison to share his love of art with families he has never forgotten. “We are honored to co-host this family experience with Morrison; the demonstration and art supplies drive will benefit Brooklyn families in need during one of the nation’s toughest economic seasons,” said Beavers. “It's a great to see an artist who hasn’t forgotten where he has come from and who is willing to work with a gallery to give back and inspire a whole generation of artists.”
The art demonstration will be led by Morrison, engaging children to express themselves through their creations. The art supplies drive will be held on Sunday. All New Yorkers are encouraged to come out and support the wonderful cause.
House of Art Gallery will donate the art supplies to several Brooklyn public schools which will be distributed before December 25th.
