As Ricardo Cabret’s first solo exhibit, “Adapt & Evolve,” captures his year long transition from San Juan, Puerto Rico to New York City.
On April 19, 2011, a year and one day away from his exhibit, Ricardo joined New York’s increasing wave of young modern fine artists and moved to the Big Apple.
The city’s grey tones, brick-like textures, and Occupy Wall Street quickly became familiar elements and inspiring resources for his growing work collection, but little did he know that his Caribbean colors, flavors, and style would find a way back to his canvas.
Soon Ricardo’s grey palettes brightened with color splashes. His paper became thick enough to withstand drips of Puerto Rico’s renown coffee. And his signature metropolitan bomb occasionally met with a tropical fish.
“Adapt & Evolve” is Ricardo’s artistic work culmination where two cultures collide, and better yet, coincide.
Ricardo Cabret is one of Puerto Rico's up and coming fine arts talents. Born December 17, 1985 in Rio Piedras, Ricardo was introduced to the arts as a barely walking toddler. By the age of 10 he was already banging out his drumeset to the tunes of Bill Stewart and and practicing his brush strokes to Marcano Garcia's patterns.
While majoring in electrical engineering at the University of Puerto Rico, Mayaguez campus, Ricardo co-developed Viva Epic Co, an alternative company with a fresh outlook on sports and beach wear. As Viva Epic's head marketing and clothing designer, Ricardo was able to implement his artistic background within a professional environment. Viva Epic served as a platform to what soon would become Ricardo's personal collection of artworks.
Nowadays, Ricardo lives and works in New York City where he courses graduate studies and concentrates on his paintings, which can all be described as depictions of dramatic moments; dynamic movement in a fusion of layers and colors. Each canvas carries its own story, and its own meaning.
Ricardo's work reflects special attention to detail, some pop art influences, geometric form, and organic lines. His utmost favorite hue is blue.
