Max Neumann was born in 1949 in Saarbruck, Germany and now lives in Berlin. He studied art in Karlsruhe and Berlin, and has been exhibiting since the late-1970s. He has had more than 150 solo exhibitions and his work is present in numerous national and international private and public collections. He is the recipient of many awards, including the BDI (German Industry Federation), the Villa Romana Award (Florence), the Dr. Dietrich Schulz Foundation Award (Schleswig), the Award of the City of Iserlohn, and the Grand Prix de S.A.S le Prince Rainier III (Monaco).
